The Environment Agency and the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) oversee public registers that provide environmental information. These registers contain lots of useful information on applications for licences made by businesses and individuals who carry out activities that have the potential to harm the environment.
The registers reveal how such licences are granted, any conditions attached to the licences and how they are regulated and monitored. They also include details on breaches of licence conditions and enforcement actions taken by the Environment Agency or SEPA against the licence-holder.
